Three major Hollywood studios are reportedly interested in producing a potential Mad Max 6 movie. According to reports, filmmaker and franchise co-creator George Miller is currently looking for a production studio to produce a final Mad Max movie and a TV series. WB, the distributor for the last few entries, has passed on the offer.

Amazon among the studios interested in George Miller’s next Mad Max outing

Australian director George Miller is on the hunt for a production studio to partner with. He reportedly wants to make Mad Max 6 and a TV series before selling the intellectual property to the highest bidder (via Puck News).

According to the outlet’s source, the Oscar-winning filmmaker recently visited Warner Bros. Studios at Burbank. Although WB distributed the last four Mad Max movies, both its film and TV divisions passed on the offer to partner on future installments. If true, the reasons behind the decision are unknown. Meanwhile, Amazon, Universal Pictures, and Sony Pictures reportedly have an “interest” in partnering with the veteran.

Given that these details are based on hearsay, they will remain rumors until the director or any of the studios offer an official statement.

Miller co-created the franchise with the late Byron Kennedy, who passed away in 1983, a year after the second film’s release. The franchise currently has four mainline films and a spinoff prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, with the latter being the latest entry.

Released on May 24, 2024, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was the first film to steer away from the franchise’s central character. It served as the prequel to 2015’s Fury Road, and featured Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead. It also starred Chris Hemsworth as Dementus, the unhinged leader of the Biker Hordes, a different faction from Immortan Joe’s Cult of the V8.

Upon release, the reviews were pretty clear: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was a great addition to the franchise. Despite that positive reception, it grossed $174.3 million globally on a $168 million budget.
