Adults Sets FXX & Hulu Release Date for Surprise Prequel Episode Before Season 2

FX’s original comedy series, Adults, finally has a release date for its special prequel episode. Shortly after Season 1 debuted last year, the network renewed the show for Season 2. But before the second installment premieres later this year, there will be a standalone episode.

The standalone Adults prequel episode will arrive before Season 2 premieres

Adults’ prequel episode, titled “Marathon Day,” is scheduled to be released on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 1 PM ET/10 AM PT. It will be available to stream on FXX and Hulu.

The show centers on five friends—Samir, Issa, Anton, Billie, and Paul—in their 20s in New York who try to figure out how to be adults. They live together in Samir’s childhood home, which leads to hilarious and chaotic moments.

One of the things that Season 1 never explored is how the group came together. The upcoming prequel will explore the origins of the main character, Paul Baker, and how the group came to be. It is written by the show’s creators, Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw.

Reportedly, there was a surprise screening of the episode at the Tribeca Festival earlier this week. During an interview, the showrunners said, “We’re so excited for the opportunity to show fans how this friend group came to be. We love a good origin story, and we can’t wait for you to see where the radioactive spider bit Paul Baker” (via Variety).

The show’s cast includes Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao, and Owen Thiele. It also features special appearances from Charlie Cox as Mr. Teacher and Rachel Marsh as Carly.

Adults Season 1 premiered with two episodes on FX on May 28, 2025. Subsequently, the entire season, consisting of 8 episodes, was dropped on May 29 on FXX and Hulu. Critically, the show was well-received. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a critics’ score of 76% and a user score of 84%.

Season 2 will also comprise eight episodes, all of which will be released on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
