Aimee Lou Wood Addresses SNL Teeth Drama In Promo Sketch For UK Hosting Stint

For her first comedic offering as the next host of Saturday Night Live UK, Aimee Lou Wood chose not just to address the elephant in the room, but to rope it in for a joke.

The Bafta winner will present the live sketch comedy this weekend, a year after publicly calling out the American version of the show for parodying her White Lotus character with the use of fake teeth, an exaggerated (and somewhat puzzling) British accent and jokes about not knowing what fluoride is in a sketch she branded “mean and unfunny”.

She said at the time: “Take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”

Aimee later added: “The joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth. 

“I don’t mind caricature – I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”

On Tuesday evening, SNL UK shared its first promo clip for Aimee’s episode, in which she walks into the studio to find cast members Ayoade Bamgboye, Al Nash and Celeste Dring all covering their mouths, as Paddy Young warns them: “Guys, she’s going to know…”

“Guys, I’m so excited!” the former Sex Education star then beams. “I cannot wait to get started – especially after the whole ‘thing’ in America with the teeth. So, it’s going to feel good to just wipe the slate clean.”

“Wait…” she adds. “Why are you all covering their mouths?”

After accusing the group of having “fake teeth in”, she laments: “Wow. This is all just one big set-up to humiliate me, then? I thought SNL UK would be different, but I was wrong.”

However, at that moment, the group reveals they “all grew big glorious moustaches” in tribute to Paddy, and were covering them up so Aimee wouldn’t “feel left out”.
