While Led Zeppelin did not invent rock, and it is always worth noting how they borrowed heavily from rock and blues artists that came before them, they did more or less codify classic rock, or hard rock. Or both. And then the band experimented a bit, with certain albums, as the slower songs by Led Zeppelin lean into folk rock to some extent, too. It’s not just high-intensity bangers all the time, though you do get a lot of bangers. That can’t be denied. The first four albums Led Zeppelin released are all especially good, and they're probably the four best Led Zeppelin albums, too. Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti, #5 and #6, respectively, are also great, but those first four are going to be focused on below.
