Another Stranger Things star has joined Maya Hawke in Netflix’s highly anticipated new series. The streamer’s latest casting announcement adds a familiar face to The God of the Woods.

Maya Hawke is swapping Hawkins for the world of crime drama. Netflix has officially unveiled the cast for The God of the Woods, based on Liz Moore’s bestselling 2024 novel. Nell Fisher, another Stranger Things actor, joins Hawke in the series, reuniting the two for fans of the hit sci-fi show.

Hawke will play Judy Luptack, the first female investigator navigating the male-dominated Bureau of Criminal Investigation. She takes on the disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp, a case that grows even more complicated as it mirrors an earlier tragedy tied to the influential Van Laar family.

Fisher, who recently appeared as Holly Wheeler in Stranger Things, will portray Barbara Van Laar, a creative, independent, and rebellious teenager whose disappearance sits at the heart of the series’ central mystery. Academy Award nominee Kerry Condon will play Alice Van Laar, Barbara’s mother, a woman hardened by grief and trapped in a contemptuous marriage, already carrying the emotional weight of a previous family tragedy.

The cast also includes Damon Gupton, Ella Rubin, Susannah Perkins, Benjamin Walker, and Autumn Molina. Set in New York’s Adirondacks, the story follows the fallout from Barbara’s disappearance at her family’s summer camp. As investigators dig deeper, long-buried secrets, class divisions, and questions surrounding the Van Laar family’s influence begin to surface, threatening to unravel decades of carefully guarded power.

Liz Moore and Liz Hannah are serving as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Sony Pictures Television is producing the series, with Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty executive producing through Original Film.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix. The God of the Woods does not yet have an official release date.
