Australia is known for having some weird and wonderful snacks – everything from fairy bread to Vegemite.

Last year, one of the most popular sweet treats, Tim Tams, launched in the UK for the very first time.

And now the company behind them is bringing another of the country’s most iconic products here too, but this time it’s a savoury favourite.

Arnott’s Shapes are now available in several major UK supermarkets, in three different flavours.

What are Arnott’s Shapes?

The Aussie snacks are oven-baked crackers, in different shapes and flavours. Online, they’ve been hailed as ‘an Aussie favourite’, ‘amazing’, and ‘the best’.

In the UK, three of the most popular varieties are hitting the shelves, including Chicken, Barbecue, and Pizza.

The Chicken is described as being ‘mouth-watering and lightly salted’, with a uniquely crimped cracker, while the Barbecue has a ‘herby’, ‘rich’ and ‘tangy’ tomato seasoning.

Finally, the Pizza is inspired by the classic dish with a ‘cheese and tomato flavour’ on a crispy base.

There are several other flavours available Down Under, though, including Vegemite, Cheese & Bacon, Sweet Chilli, and Garlic Bread. Whether any of these will land in the UK too, only time will tell.

Where can you buy Arnott’s Shapes?

The crackers will be available across the UK in Waitrose, Morrisons and Ocado, priced at £2.50 per box.

Jenni Dill, Chief Growth Officer at The Arnott’s Group, told Metro: ‘With warmer weather just around the corner, we knew it was the perfect time for us to introduce a new snack for Brits to enjoy.

What do they actually taste like?

Metro got an exclusive first try of the new snacks, and they’re incredibly moreish.

Specialist food writer, Courtney Pochin, said: ‘The barbecue flavour wasn’t at all what I expected.

‘It’s nothing like barbecue sauce in the UK, something to keep in mind if you prefer the more traditional BBQ taste. Instead of having a strong smoky flavour, it’s herby with a slight citrussy tang.

‘The pizza one, however, tastes exactly as you’d expect. It’s crispy and tomatoey with a hint of oregano. Like the barbecue, it has a tang, but in this case, I assume that’s meant to be where the cheese comes in, but I wouldn’t say it’s got an overly strong cheese flavour, which I’d have liked more of.’

She added: ‘I always love trying foods from other countries, it’s such a novelty, and these are fun.

‘I wouldn’t say they’re particularly groundbreaking, as we definitely have similar products here in the UK already, but they taste good, and they’re incredibly moreish – I struggled to stop eating them once I’d started.’
