CNN tapped two of its most recognizable faces to kick off America’s 250th birthday celebrations in iconic fashion. The network revealed its extensive July 4 programming lineup featuring familiar hosts, nationwide performances and coast-to-coast coverage.
Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen will serve as hosts of Independence Eve Live
CNN will tap Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen to host Independence Eve Live with Anderson & Andy on Friday, July 3 from Times Square, Deadline reported. The special will air from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET and feature a unique midnight ball drop. The event will mark the countdown to the United States’ 250th birthday in classic New York City style.
The pair have hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage together for nearly a decade. Several guests will join them during the broadcast, including American icons, cultural legends and everyday heroes. CNN correspondents and reporters will also check in on Independence Day celebrations around the country.
Coverage will continue into Saturday, July 4 with The Fourth in America: Celebrating 250. Brianna Keilar and Laura Coates will anchor special coverage at 12 p.m. ET from the nation’s capital. Their broadcast will include coverage of the White House’s Freedom 250 celebration at the National Mall.
Cooper will return at 6 p.m. to anchor from Boston alongside Pamela Brown. CNN will co-host the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular at that location. The concert will feature performances by Lainey Wilson, Chance the Rapper and Trombone Shorty.
Dana Bash and Boris Sanchez will anchor primetime coverage from the National Mall. Sara Sidner and Victor Blackwell will present from the Empire State Building. Elex Michaelson and Cari Champion will anchor from San Diego starting at 11 p.m. ET.
The celebration will also feature performances from multiple locations across the country. Charlie Puth and Josh Groban will perform from Hollywood, Florida. Kane Brown will take the stage from Cadott, Wisconsin. Rod Stewart will perform from Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Lil Wayne, AJR, Kool & the Gang and Chaka Khan will perform from Napa Valley, California.
