Denis Villeneuve‘s upcoming James Bond movie has received a seal of approval from a former Bond girl. In a recent interview, the actress recalled being delighted after hearing the filmmaker had been tapped to helm it. She also expressed faith in his ability to deliver a great cinematic adaptation of 007.

Léa Seydoux discusses Denis Villeneuve’s James Bond movie

Léa Seydoux, who worked with Denis Villeneuve in Dune: Part Two, admitted she was initially slightly upset about Amazon MGM Studios’ acquisition of James Bond’s rights. However, she revealed that she became hopeful after learning the filmmaker was helming the next Bond movie.

“I was a bit sad when I heard that it was sold,” she told Variety during an in-depth conversation. “But now that it’s Denis, I was like, ‘Oh, at least it’s him, so it will be cinema.'”

The Blue Is the Warmest Colour actress also praised Villeneuve. Calling him “super cultured,” she highlighted his vast knowledge of topics within cinema and beyond.

Notably, Seydoux played Bond girl, Madeleine Swann, in the last two films of Daniel Craig’s James Bond movies: 2015’s Spectre and 2021’s No Time to Die. She became the first of her kind in the film franchise to conceive a child with the MI6 agent. Swann bore him a daughter, Mathilde, who appears in the latter.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the script for the feature, which will reportedly hit the big screen in 2028, as per Deadline. Meanwhile, Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing via their respective production banners, Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films. Tanya Lapointe will executive produce.

The casting process officially began recently. In a statement, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed they wouldn’t share “specific details” during this. However, they promised to offer updates “as soon as the time [was] right.”

Meanwhile, as the wait for Villeneuve’s film grows, James Bond fans can get their fix through the video game 007 First Light. Launching on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows on May 27, 2026, it will tell the iconic spy’s origin story, showing how he got his license to kill.
