Over the years, Disney has acquired the rights to some of the biggest franchises in the world. The first two that immediately come to mind are Marvel and Star Wars, which have each raked in billions of dollars at the box office and will continue to do so with more new releases this year. Disney also has a massive animation department that has expanded into delivering live-action adaptations of some of its most popular animated classics, but while this method has mostly been a financial success, it’s still viewed as quite polarizing by fans who hold the animated films near to their heart. Disney will return to the world of live-action remakes this summer with a new Moana movie, which will be the third installment in the Moana franchise. After Moana 2 grossed over $1 billion at the box office in 2024, the live-action film is expected to be a massive hit.
