Doctor Strange To Get Brand New Codename & Costume in Upcoming Release

Doctor Strange is getting an overhaul with a new costume and codename. The upcoming issue will present the Sorcerer Supreme under a new identity.

Doctor Strange will have a new codename and appearance in Doctor Strange #8

The popular Marvel character will adopt a new codename of Lord Strange in Doctor Strange #8. He will wear an eldritch black and red costume, with a Medici-style collar and a spiky logo depicting Yggdrasil, the World Tree of Norse mythology, reports ScreenRant.

Written by Darek Landy, the upcoming issue’s synopsis reads, “Doctor Strange has become his dark form, LORD STRANGE, to speak to the being ATHO-TET within the mystical GOD QUARRY. But Lord Strange’s magic comes at a cost, and he’ll have to move quickly before DOWNFALL closes in on his next target…”

The comic book will pit the iconic character against a new villain, Downfall, who wields an anti-magic ability that overpowers Strange’s spells and armor. To defeat him, Strange decides to surrender himself fully to magic to become even more powerful. But in doing so, he sacrifices his humanity.

As for his appearance, it’s not the first time Doctor Strange has undergone a radical transformation in the comics. In recent times, he was seen fighting General Strange, an alternate version of himself who fought a millennia-long battle on behalf of the mystic beings known as the Vishanti. In the past, Stephen Strange also appeared as Sheriff Strange, who enforced the rules of Emperor Doom after the villain saved multiple remnants of the multiverse.

In the case of Lord Strange, however, it’s not a totally different version of Stephen Strange. It’s who he becomes after letting magic take full control over him. Fans will be eager to see whether he can avoid being corrupted in the long run after the upcoming issue.

Speaking of Marvel Comics, Doctor Strange #8 will be released on July 1, 2026.
