Film and television veteran Reginald Hudlin is developing a new live-action television series for an iconic comic strip superhero, The Phantom. Created by Lee Falk in 1936, The Phantom is the original costumed superhero, predating Superman in Action Comics in 1938 and Batman in Detective Comics in 1939. Nicknamed The Ghost Who Walks, it's traditionally Kit Walker who takes on the mantle of The Phantom, a crime fighter and vigilante, with the title getting passed down from parent to child in every generation. The Phantom comic strip has received many iterations and adaptations over the years. However, its absolute best version is a Blade Runner-inspired sci-fi cyberpunk take on the pulp hero with the 1994 syndicated animated series, Phantom 2040. With a new live-action adaptation on the horizon, it's time to explore why this underrated animated series is the perfect candidate for your next weekend binge.
