The early 2020s were great years for Euphoria's creator, Sam Levinson, after his HBO teen drama became an immediate hit. The series did well for HBO, joining the roster of some of the cable network's most popular series. However, Euphoria is notorious for having huge delays between seasons as its cast finishes up other projects. Back in 2022, Levinson and HBO's relationship was at its strongest, so when he pitched them a musical drama set in Hollywood, the project was greenlit while Euphoria was on break between Seasons 2 and 3.
