The makers of Gatta Kusthi 2 have dropped the trailer for the much-awaited sequel, offering audiences another dose of comedy, family drama and relationship chaos. Reuniting Vishnuu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead, the film picks up the story of Veera and Keerthi, whose unconventional marriage continues to challenge the rigid expectations of a deeply conservative society.
Written and directed by Chella Ayyavu, Gatta Kusthi 2 builds on the foundation laid by the 2022 hit, which earned praise for blending commercial entertainment with conversations around gender roles. Going by the trailer, the sequel appears to expand on those themes while dialling up the humour, emotional conflicts and larger-than-life family moments.
Veera and Keerthi's story enters a new chapter
The trailer reunites viewers with Veera and Keerthi, whose relationship remains anything but ordinary. While the first film revolved around Veera's fragile masculinity and Keerthi's identity as a talented wrestler, the sequel explores what happens after the couple embraces a life that refuses to conform to traditional expectations.
Packed with comic misunderstandings, action sequences and emotionally charged moments, the trailer hints that the couple will once again find themselves at odds with societal norms. This time, the spotlight shifts to the challenges of sustaining a marriage where conventional gender roles are constantly questioned, setting the stage for a story that balances humour with social commentary.
Vishnuu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi appear comfortable slipping back into their popular characters, recreating the chemistry that made the original film a crowd favourite. Their playful banter remains at the centre of the narrative, with the trailer suggesting plenty of laugh-out-loud moments alongside heartfelt exchanges.
Ensemble cast returns for another entertainer
Joining the lead pair is an expansive supporting cast featuring Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Karunaas, Muniskanth, Kaali Venkat, Karunakaran, Zara and Mokksha, among others. The ensemble promises to add fresh layers of comedy and drama as Veera and Keerthi navigate new personal and family challenges.
Behind the scenes, Sean Roldan has composed the film's music, while KM Bhaskaran serves as cinematographer. Editing is handled by Barath Vikraman, with Jayachandran taking charge of the production design.
Like its predecessor, Gatta Kusthi 2 is backed by Vishnuu Vishal, who produces the film under the Vishnu Vishal Studioz banner. He is joined by producer Ishari K Ganesh of Vels Film International, with Shubhra, Aryan Ramesh and Ishan Saksena serving as co-producers.
The original Gatta Kusthi, released in 2022, was simultaneously made in Tamil and Telugu, where it was titled Matti Kusthi. The film was appreciated for presenting a mainstream entertainer that challenged gender stereotypes without losing its commercial appeal. It also marked the first on-screen collaboration between Vishnuu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi, with their performances receiving positive responses from audiences.
With its lively trailer teasing more humour, emotional drama and energetic action, Gatta Kusthi 2 looks set to deliver another family entertainer that combines laughs with a message. Whether the sequel can recreate the success of the original will soon be known when it arrives in theatres on July 3.
