HBO Max has announced a new spin-off for one of its most popular animated shows. Following its most recent prequel and other projects, the new show will become the fifth spin-off in the franchise.
What is the new HBO Max spin-off TV show?
HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order for a new spin-off called Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline. The series will launch with ten episodes. The show’s logline reads, “Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen journey across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering familiar faces and new dangers.”
Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President, HBO & HBO Max Comedy Programming, said, “We can’t wait to see where Adam’s boundless imagination takes us in this new series. It’s such a joy to go on another ‘Adventure Time’ journey with our friends and partners at Cartoon Network Studios.”
Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, added: “’Adventure Time’ remains one of the most inventive and beloved worlds in animation. Alongside our partners at HBO Max, we’re thrilled to continue expanding that universe with Adam and his incredibly talented team.”

Adam Muto will be the showrunner and executive producer for the upcoming series. Muto previously took over showrunning duties from Pendleton Ward for seasons 5-10 of the original show. Fred Seibert and Sam Register will serve as the executive producers for the series. As was the case before, the show will be produced in partnership with Cartoon Network Studios.
“Continuing in the spirit of ‘Fionna & Cake,’ I’m excited that the next ‘Adventure Time’ series will feature two more of my favorite characters: Bubblegum & Marceline,” said Muto. “It’s been a fantastic opportunity to revisit old friends and build onto the world of Adventure Time.”
The next Adventure Time spin-off, Side Quests, is scheduled to premiere later this month.. Described as a companion piece, the show follows the adventures of a young Finn and Jake the Dog in the world of Ooo. The franchise also released Adventure Time: Distant Lands and Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake in 2020 and 2023, respectively. More Adventure Time spin-offs are also in the works, including a movie that was announced nearly two years ago.
Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline currently doesn’t have a release date.
