Fans are curious to know how long Clark was in the Backrooms. Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character first discovers the place on June 29, 1990. Initially, he explores it alone, mapping the space before bringing in his employees, Kat and Bobby, for help.

However, the two never make it back and seemingly disappear, as suggested by missing-person posters seen during Clark’s visit around July 1990. During the early stages, Clark used to explore the Backrooms alone, which could take him 4-5 days. However, later, he brought in Kat and Bobby to help him learn the mechanics and document the whole experience.

Apart from these three, Clark’s therapist, Mary, also follows him into this space out of curiosity and searches for him. By the time she does, it’s too late, given he had already turned insane after experiencing the horrors of backrooms for a long time and dealing with his existing trauma.

Before following him through the backroom, Mary visits Clark’s Cap’n Clark’s Ottoman Empire furniture store, where she notices a stack of mail under the door. It likely implied that it hadn’t been many days/weeks since the store was abandoned for backrooms exploration.

As soon as she comes across Clark in the backrooms, she did ask him for how long he’d been stuck in the place. However, she receives no direct response. Looking at his manic condition and his bond with Still Life entities, it is heavily implied that he had been stranded for a much longer period than expected.

The flow of time in the Backrooms is uncertain; it could be slower or faster depending on the location, making it difficult to understand accurately. Moreover, it is suggested that those stuck in the Backrooms age very slowly. So even if Clark remained there for an extended time, his appearance might not clearly reflect the span of time.
