Alex Garlandis a polarizing storyteller who certainly makes interesting, bold decisions, even if the political context of his work has attracted criticism. Garland’s directed films, like Ex Machina and Annihilation, touched on existential, ambiguous topics that initiated fervent debate regarding their realism. However, Garland proved he was better suited for television with Devs, a science fiction thriller that examined the provable existence of an afterlife, the corruption of Silicon Valley, and the impossibility of being able to move on from a life-changing loss.
