Comedian Jack Whitehall has responded to chart-topping singer Becky Hill’s song inspired by him.

Last year, the stand-up comic faced criticism from Becky after he referred to her as “Wetherspoons Whitney” while presenting at the Brit Awards.

“Imagine being called a ‘Wetherspoons Whitney’ by some privately-educated nepo baby who has a TV show with daddy, the showbiz agent, on national TV,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

She added: “If you associate a Midlands accent with a Wetherspoons that says more about the silver spoon in your mouth, jolly ol’ bo.”

The Remember singer then shared a follow-up post, which read: “Me and my working class attitude off to WORK today. Remember not to be out of touch today kids, even if your daddy is rich. Shout out Jack Whitehall for the fuel to my fire.”

Becky recently wrote a song about the incident, apparently telling the audience at a preview show at London’s 100 Club: “This song, I’m affectionately calling Wetherspoons Whitney, but you lot will know it as Daddy’s Range Rover.”

“This one’s for you, Jack,” she then claimed, before launching into lyrics like “just ’cause your daddy worked in showbiz, got you a job with his old boss” and “you judge me on my accent before I even start”.

Speaking to the Press Association at the premiere of his new film, Virginia Woolf’s Night And Day, Jack said he was “absolutely honoured” to have inspired Becky’s song.

“I’m actually quite surprised it’s taken this long for someone to write a diss track about me,” he remarked. “What’s Olly Murs been doing all these years? I’ve come for him so many times. Niall Horan never mentions me? It’s all I want. I’m a thirsty guy, I just want to be noticed.”

During an extended portion of the interview shared on social media, Jack insisted that he “loves” Becky, and there was “no beef” on his part.

I saw her at the F1, we were having a good ol’ laugh about it,” he claimed.

Becky is currently gearing up for the release of her third album Rebecca later this year.

This album has definitely got something to fucking say for itself,” she recently told NME.

Specifically addressing the song inspired by the Brits incident, she added: “That song is about the ‘Wetherspoons Whitney’ thing because how fucking dare he punch down.

“I’ll take the Whitney [comparison]. I’ll take ‘landfill Whitney’, but how fucking dare he punch down and call me a ‘Wetherspoons Whitney’, because where the fuck is he frequenting?”
