The bond between the host and his network has also shifted. Last year, ABC offered only a one-year renewal rather than the usual three. “Everything is so tumultuous. That seemed to make sense,” Kimmel said. “It’s definitely not how it’s gone in the past.”

Now, with less than twelve months remaining on his deal, the silence from executives is notable. “I don’t know what ABC is going to want to do,” Jimmy Kimmel admitted. “It’s an unusual position to be in, but I do still have a year left on my contract.” His contract expires in May 2027.

Kimmel also offered a peek into his retirement hesitation. He dreads the emotion of a final broadcast. “As soon as I start talking, I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m not going to keep it together,'” he said. “That might be why I haven’t retired yet. Because I know on my last show, I’m going to be a mess.”
