John Turturro’s Star-Studded Pickpocket Movie Sets Release Date

John Turturro’s star-studded crime thriller finally has a date with audiences this fall. Sony Pictures Classics revealed release plans for The Only Living Pickpocket in New York after its acclaimed festival run.

The Only Living Pickpocket in New York opens in October 2026

Sony Pictures Classics announced on June 18, 2026, that The Only Living Pickpocket in New York will release on October 16, 2026. The film opens in Los Angeles and New York before expanding nationwide on October 23, 2026, according to the press release. MRC and T-Street produced the crime thriller written and directed by Noah Segan.

John Turturro leads the cast as Harry, a career pickpocket navigating modern New York City. Giancarlo Esposito, Tatiana Maslany, Steve Buscemi, Will Price, and Jamie Lee Curtis also star in the film. The press release describes the movie as “a nostalgic portrait of a small-time career criminal navigating today’s digitally networked world.”

Harry operates as a classic hustler who relies on his wits and street connections to survive. However, his daily pickpocket haul has shifted from cash and wristwatches to credit cards and cell phones. One night, he stumbles upon cryptocurrency and a handgun, thrusting him into a high-stakes situation.

The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it received enthusiastic audience and critical praise. It then screened out of competition at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year. The film currently holds a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 25 critics’ reviews.

Katie McNeill, Leopold Hughes, and Ben LeClair produced the film for MRC and T-Street. Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman executive produced through their T-Street banner alongside Johnny Holland. MRC also recently backed titles including Wuthering Heights, G20, and All of You. Principal photography began in New York City in April 2025. The press release highlights Turturro’s performance, calling it “one of his finest performances” in the lead role.
