John Wick’s Caine Spin-off Movie Adds Stranger Things Star to Cast

The upcoming John Wick spin-off has a major casting update. A Stranger Things star has officially joined the Donnie Yen-led Caine.

What Stranger Things star is joining the John Wick spin-off movie, Caine?

Dacre Montgomery, who played Billy Hargrove in Stranger Things and Jason Scott in 2017’s Power Rangers, has joined the cast of Caine. Deadline reports that Montgomery’s character is being kept under wraps, but fans won’t have to wait long to find out who the actor plays.

The Caine movie recently entered production, as revealed in its announcement teaser. The film follows the titular blind assassin, who was first introduced to the world of John Wick in the fourth film. The film saw Yen’s Caine face off against, and eventually ally with, Keanu Reeves’ Wick. It’s the second John Wick spin-off, following Ballerina, led by Ana de Armas.

Montgomery will join Yen and Rina Sawayama, who reprises her role as Akira from John Wick: Chapter 4. The report confirms that the film will follow the events of that movie, which saw Caine leaving The High Table.

Caine is produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee through Thunder Road and by Chad Stahelski through 87Eleven Entertainment. Series lead Keanu Reeves and John Saunders will also produce. Alongside directing, Yen will also serve as an executive producer, joined by Courtney Brock. The film is written by The Batman scribe Mattson Tomlin and Michael McGrale, known for The Rip.

While Caine is the second Wick spin-off, a mainline John Wick 5 is also in development. As for whether Keanu Reeves will cameo in Caine as Wick, the answer is no. “The Donny Yen spinoff doesn’t have the John Wick character,” said Stahelski in a recent interview. “It’s got Donny Yen and it’s an ode to kung fu movies. If John Wick 1 was about Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin, this is about Chow Yun-fat, John Woo and Wong Kar-wai. So I think that one is a little easier to get it across to audiences because it’s in a sub-genre of what we love.” 

The Caine spin-off movie currently doesn’t have a release date.
