Recently, Ice Cube shared a major update for Last Friday, teasing the return of its main cast. The long-awaited fourth installment of the popular comedy franchise was officially announced by New Line Cinema in 2025, after several years of being stuck in development hell.

Confirmed Last Friday cast

When the development of Last Friday was announced over a year ago, Ice Cube was the first main cast member confirmed to return for the project. In addition to reprising his iconic character Craig Jones, Cube has also signed on to pen the screenplay. Apart from the Boyz n the Hood vet, Mike Epps, who starred as Day-Day Jones in 2000’s Next Friday and 2002’s Friday After Next, has also confirmed his involvement in the upcoming sequel. Outside the Friday franchise, Cube and Epps also appeared together in 2002’s All About the Benjamins and 2009’s Janky Promoters movies.

Most recently, Cube and Epps also teased Chris Tucker‘s long-awaited return as Smokey in Last Friday after over three decades. His performance in the first installment of the comedy franchise served as his breakout role, leading him to land roles in multiple high-profile films such as The Fifth Element, Money Talks, and the Rush Hour franchise. Even though his deal hasn’t been finalized yet, Epps assured fans that Tucker “wants to come back.”

Unconfirmed Last Friday cast who could return

Since production on Last Friday is expected to begin later this year, we might get more casting announcements for the project soon. Don Curry and Clifton Powell’s return as Uncle Elroy and Pinky is most likely to happen since they’re the only cast members besides Cube and Epps that have appeared in the last two installments of the franchise. With Tucker’s return, New Line Cinema could also potentially bring back key characters from the first installment, including Michael star Nia Long and Academy Award winner Regina King. Long played Smokey’s love interest Debbie, while King portrayed Day-Day’s younger sister Dana. Major characters from Friday After Next could also make a return, including Katt Williams’ Money Mike, K.D. Aubert’s Donna, and Terry Crews’ Damon Pearly.

Unfortunately, the franchise has two main cast members who weren’t able to reprise their roles in Last Friday. In the first three installments, legendary comedian John Witherspoon played the fan-favorite role of Craig’s father, Willie Jones. In 2019, Witherspoon passed away at the age of 77 due to a heart attack. The following year, Tiny Lister, who played the franchise’s main villain Deebo in the first two movies, had also died at the age of 62. Apart from Witherspoon and Lister, there are also a few irreplaceable supporting cast members who have already departed, including A.J. Johnson (Ezal) and Bernie Mac (Pastor Clever) from the 1995 film and Justin Pierce (Max) from the 2000 sequel.
