LOTR Star’s Canceled Sci-Fi Series To Exit Netflix

A 2020 sci-fi show starring one of the actors in The Lord of the Rings will exit Netflix’s content library next month. The show explores an interesting premise and centers on a human community on the Moon, whose actions could determine the fate of humanity on Earth.

Moonhaven leaves Netflix in June

Moonhaven will exit Netflix on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). It stars Dominic Monaghan, popular for playing Merry in The Lord of the Rings films.

The show is an AMC+ original created by Peter Ocko. He is a Primetime Emmy-nominated producer, known for his contributions to hit shows such as Boston Legal, The Office, Elementary, and Black Sails.

Moonhaven takes place 100 years in the future. Humanity has colonized a small part of the Moon in the hope of addressing problems that could prevent the Earth’s collapse. The story centers on Bella Sway, a pilot, who gets drawn into a conspiracy within the colony that threatens both Moonhaven and Earth.

The show’s cast also features Emma McDonald as Bella, Amara Karan as Indira, Ayelet Zurer as Maite, Joe Manganiello as Tomm, Kadeem Hardison as Arlo, and Elaine Tan as Lone, among others.

Moonhaven debuted on AMC+ on July 7, 2022, with two back-to-back episodes. Season 1 had a total of six episodes, with its finale titled “The Seeker” airing on August 4, 2022. While the viewers praised the show for its premise, the overall score was quite lukewarm. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show holds a Tomatometer score of 67% and a Popcornmeter score of 53%. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, it has a critics’ score of 74 and an average user score of 5.

Reportedly, Moonhaven was the most-watched AMC+ exclusive show and the #2 most-watched new series. Following its success, AMC Networks ordered a second season. However, the network quickly reversed its decision due to major structural changes and cost-cutting at the company (via Deadline).

Netflix subscribers have a limited time to stream Moonhaven on the platform before it exits next month.
