Mamdani throws a lifeline to drowning landlords as he lets a select few off the hook on rent freeze plans

At a press conference Tuesday, Mamdani stressed that no landlords would receive a blanket exemption from a potential rent freeze set by the Rent Guidelines Board. He added that the provision allowing rent increases 'applies to a select number of units' when they are vacant and is administered by a separate city agency, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
