Netflix has expanded its partnership with a Russian animated kids’ comedy series. Additional content from the franchise is now slated to arrive on the platform. The deal covers both upcoming and existing seasons of the long-running series.
Netflix acquires two new Seasons of Masha and the Bear
According to Deadline, Netflix has expanded its relationship with Masha and the Bear by picking up two additional seasons of the animated franchise. The agreement gives the streamer access to Seasons 8 and 9. It also extends its rights to the earlier seasons of the show and its associated spin-offs across a wide range of international markets.
Alongside the newly acquired seasons, Netflix will continue carrying Seasons 1 through 7. Masha’s Tales and Masha’s Spooky Stories is also included in the deal. The renewed arrangement covers more than 100 countries. This includes major markets such as the United States, Canada, India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and numerous territories across Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
The newly ordered episodes will introduce several additions to the franchise’s story. According to producer and distributor Animaccord, viewers will see Masha begin kindergarten, marking a new stage in the character’s journey. The upcoming seasons will also feature a winter-themed storyline centered on the Yeti family. They will also comprise special episodes and significant developments involving several characters.
Produced and distributed by Animaccord, Masha and the Bear is inspired by a Russian folk tale. It follows the adventures of an energetic young girl and her bear companion. The series has grown into one of the most successful children’s properties in the world, garnering billions of views online.
Oleg Kuzovkov, the creator of Masha and the Bear, is currently developing films based on the franchise through his newly launched company, Studio MiM. Separately, Animaccord disclosed last month that it is pursuing legal recognition of exclusive rights to the characters featured in the franchise.
