Adam Sandler and the gang are getting back together for the third film in a long-running movie franchise in the works.

What Adam Sandler movie has been announced?

During its upfronts presentation this week (via THR), Netflix announced that Grown Ups 3 is in development, with Kyle Newacheck set to direct the film from a script by Sandler and Tim Herlihy.

Currently, plot details are unknown for the movie, as is any casting information, so it’s unclear if the original group from the first two films will be returning for the third one. However, given the ensemble nature of the movies, it would be shocking if Sandler didn’t get the band back together for a third trip.

The Grown Ups series first started in 2010, when the first movie released. The series has starred Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Salma Hayek. The first movie followed the story of Sandler, James, Rock, Spade, and Schneider coming together with their respective families following the death of their childhood basketball coach.

A sequel was released in 2013 that saw a number of stars join the franchise, including Andy Samberg, Taylor Lautner, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and more.

The first two films were directed by Dennis Dugan, but this time, Sandler will be partnering up with Newacheck, who recently directed Happy Gilmore 2 for Netflix. Talk of a third Grown Ups movie has been popping up for some time, with Kevin James hinting that one could happen over the last few years. Together, both films have grossed over $500 million, making them some of the biggest comedies of the past generation.
