Any time a movie breaks the mold and does well at the box office, it spawns several attempts to recreate that success. This happened after Michael Bay's crowning achievement of the 1990s, Armageddon, grossed more than $550 million worldwide. A few years later, Hollywood came up with the bright idea to invert the premise of Armageddon — miners are sent into space to destroy a meteor heading for Earth — and made a movie that fell short on every account. In this film, a group of scientists is sent to the Earth's core in an attempt to reignite it. The movie was headlined by Aaron Eckhart and Hilary Swank, neither of whom was known for big-ticket blockbusters.
