The Pokémon franchise is making an official return to the Johto region from Generation 2 with a new release celebrating the IP’s 30th anniversary. 2026 marks 30 years since the creature-collector franchise first hit the world to an outstanding reception, which then developed into a massive series. Since then, we’ve gotten several games, including some obscure Pokémon game releases, and over 1,000 creatures. Even so, one thing Nintendo likes to do is look back to the series’ past, and now, as part of the anniversary celebrations, we’re going back to Johto.
