Nearly two months into a terrific theatrical run, Project Hail Mary has overtaken its spiritual predecessor at the box office. The movie, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is based on a bestseller by Andy Weir. This isn't the first time that one of Weir's novels has been adapted into a blockbuster film. Project Hail Mary was preceded by a massively popular movie that debuted theatrically in 2015. Not only was that film a box-office hit, but it also received a Best Picture nod at the Oscars. Drew Goddard, who received an Oscar nomination for his adapted screenplay, returned to write Project Hail Mary.
