Russell Crowe has wrapped up filming on Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot

Russell Crowe confirmed he has finished filming his role in Chad Stahelski’s upcoming Highlander reboot, Variety reports. The Oscar winner plays Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, a centuries-old immortal who trains Henry Cavill’s Connor MacLeod. Crowe shared the update while speaking at the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily.

“I just finished the shoot of Highlander,” Crowe said during his festival appearance. He called the Amazon MGM Studios production “fantastic” and praised Stahelski’s directorial pedigree. “It’s by Chad Stahelski, who directed all the John Wick movies, so you know he is incapable of directing a film that is not exciting,” he added.

Cavill leads the reboot as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish blacksmith exiled from his homeland. Dave Bautista plays the villainous Kurgan, the most feared of the Immortals. The film also stars Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Irons in key roles.

Principal photography began on January 28, 2026, in Scotland after delays caused by a Cavill training injury. Production then moved to London and subsequently shifted to locations in Poland and Hong Kong. The film carries a reported budget of $180 million under the United Artists banner.

Crowe’s completion of his scenes suggests the production may be approaching its final stages. Stahelski previously indicated plans for Highlander to launch a potential new trilogy for Amazon MGM Studios. The reboot draws from the original 1986 film’s mythology about immortal warriors battling for a mysterious Prize.

Crowe appeared at Taormina to receive the festival’s International Achievement Award and premiere his new film, Bear Country. He also discussed his upcoming Netflix project Unabomber, set for release later this year.
