A24 has premiered the second trailer for “Godzilla x Kong” director Adam Wingard’s new feature “Onslaught” starring Adria Arjona.
Alex Pereira, Drew Starkey, Rebecca Hall, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Eric Wareheim and Wingard’s lucky charm Dan Stevens also star.
In the film, a deadly, rogue experiment breaks free from a nearby secret military base – triggering a massive manhunt.
While a team of elite mercenaries races to contain the escaped threats, a former sniper (Arjona) finds herself and her loved ones targeted by the a former sniper – hyper-advanced, killing-machine super-soldiers.
To stop the killing machine, she must become one, relying on ruthless, well-honed combat skills to survive the chaos. The project marks a return to the gritty indie roots of Wingard’s earlier films like “You’re Next” and “The Guest”.
In fact, Wingard revealed at San Diego Comic-Con (via Bloody Disgusting) that the film takes place in the same universe, and indeed the same rural town, as his 2014 film “The Guest” with the helmer calling it a “spiritual sequel”.
Stevens won’t return to his “The Guest” role of David Collins. Instead, he’s seen in the trailer in old-age makeup as a scientist with a German accent. The outlet indicates the secret program responsible for the soldiers in the film are another iteration or offshoot of the same military medical experiment in which David was a test subject.
“Onslaught” is set to open in cinemas on September 4th.
