Silo Season 3 returns to Apple TV next month, and the latest trailer teases a major change that will only benefit the show.

Silo Season 3 continues the story of Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) and the people forced to live underground in the Silo. In the present, Juliette Nichols (Ferguson) survives her forced “cleaning” but returns with memory loss as the silo recovers from rebellion and faces a dangerous new threat,” Apple’s official logline reads.

Besides Ferguson, the returning cast includes Common, Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Alexandria Riley, Shane McRae, Remmie Milner, Rick Gomez, Billy Postlethwaite, and Clare Perkins.

If you watch the new trailer, you’ll notice a major shift in the show’s focus at around the 1:40 mark. “The truth lies in the past” flashes across the screen. After two seasons, Silo is finally going back to the past for answers.

How Silo Season 3 will benefit from one major change

There are two major questions at the heart of Silo. Why did society move into the Silo, and when will it be safe to go outside? The first question will start to be answered this season, as Silo will introduce a new timeline from the past, before the world became a dystopian society.

In the final moments of the Season 2 finale, the show flashed back to “Before Times” and introduced journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick) and Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman). These two characters will work to “uncover a conspiracy” that leads to a catastrophic chain of events. In all likelihood, those events will lead to what caused people to live in silos.

There was only so much story Silo could tell in the present before they needed to revisit the past. Fans, including myself, have been dying to know what led to civilization going underground. Judging by the new trailer, Silo Season 3 will start to piece together how society went up in flames. Hopefully, the series will also explore other silos, similar to the storyline in the second season.

Adding a second timeline to the show also opens up a world of possibilities in terms of character development and world-building. It’s a new element that should make the show feel fresh as it heads into its third season and sets the stage for the fourth and final season.

Silo Season 3 will consist of 10 episodes on Apple TV, with the first premiering on July 3, 2026.
