Director Jeff Fowler announced on Friday that production has officially wrapped on Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Fowler shared a set photo on social media posing alongside the robotic villain Metal Sonic, giving fans their first look at the character. “And that’s a wrap on #SonicMovie4!!!” Fowler wrote. “On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can’t wait to share.”

Fowler has directed all four installments of the Paramount and Sega franchise. The fourth film is set to premiere on March 19, 2027, in theaters. Kristen Bell joins the cast as the voice of Amy Rose for this installment. Ben Schwartz returns to voice Sonic, while Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter also star.

Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara serve as producers on the project. Together, the Sonic franchise has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office. The third film became the highest-grossing entry in the series, earning over $490 million worldwide.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 opened at No. 1 domestically for two consecutive weeks during its theatrical run. It also debuted at No. 1 in over 30 markets, including the U.K., Mexico, Italy, and Australia. The threequel has since driven over $180 million in global consumer spending from home entertainment rentals and purchases.

The wrap photo reveals Metal Sonic’s design for the first time, showing a sleek robotic version of the hedgehog with glowing red eyes. Fans have long anticipated the iconic villain’s live-action debut in the franchise. The film will look to continue the series’ upward trajectory when it arrives next year.
