Taylor Swift on stage in December 2024Taylor Swift has ended the speculation that she’s recorded a song for the new Toy Story movie, confirming that she’s on the soundtrack for the film.
Rumours of Taylor’s involvement stretched as far back as April, when a cryptic countdown featuring Toy Story’s iconic clouds motif appeared on the Grammy winner’s website, before abruptly disappearing.
More recently, her involvement in the film was teased once again when billboards popped up around the US featuring the letters “TS” in Toy Story’s iconic font.
On Monday night, the I Knew You Were Trouble star confirmed she’d written a new song for the film, titled I Knew It, I Knew You, which will be released on Friday.
“I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a five-year-old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” she wrote on Instagram.
Taylor added: “I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?”
Meanwhile, a press release said that I Knew It, I Knew You would mark a return to the country style showcased by Taylor in the early years of her career, with the song taking inspiration from “the rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl Jessie’s ongoing journey”.

Four years later, Toy Story 2 received a nod in the same category for the track When She Loved Me, performed in the film by Sarah Maclachlan, before winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2011 for the Toy Story 3 cut We Belong Together.
Randy Newman’s Toy Story 4 song I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away was also nominated in 2020.
Toy Story 5 is due for release on Friday 19 June.
