The Big Bang Theory was averaging between 18 and 20 million views per episode when the show was at its peak, which would be enough today to make it one of the most popular shows on TV if it were airing today. The series debuted back in 2007, and new seasons were released on a yearly basis until the finale in 2019. Outside of network TV, this concept has become foreign in the modern landscape, where shows sometimes go on years-long hiatuses between seasons. Without Jim Parsons and his performance as Sheldon Cooper, it’s hard to dispute that The Big Bang Theory would have become as popular as it is today — Sheldon was such a key part of the series that CBS greenlit an entire spin-off show around him, Young Sheldon, which aired for seven seasons between 2017 and 2024. As fans await news about the next season of the latest spin-off, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, there’s another new project coming next month that’s going to flip the Big Bang universe on its head.
