Artists with a truly unique sound are a rarity. Finding an artist with a unique sound that can cross genres is rarer still. Take Garth Brooks, for instance. He has a definitive sound that he utilized time and again with chart-topping country songs, but a 1999 sojourn in pop/rock as alter ego "Chris Gaines" failed miserably, with Brooks having largely distanced himself from his distinctive twang for the project. But there is one rock artist who is not only unique, but crosses genres, successfully, within the confines of a single song, all without losing her distinctive voice. The vocalist is Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries, and the song, "Zombie," announced her arrival as one of rock's greatest voices.
