CNN renews Have I Got News for You for Season 5

CNN has renewed Have I Got News for You for a fifth season, Deadline reported exclusively. The news panel show will premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT on September 12 on CNN. Roy Wood Jr. will return as host alongside team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black.

The renewal announcement will arrive at today’s Warner Bros. Discovery upfront. Season 5 will also stream on HBO Max, the CNN app, and CNN.com. Jimmy Mulville’s Hat Trick Productions, which produces the original British format, will continue producing for CNN Originals.

“We’re thrilled to return for season five and continue covering the nation’s most important stories, most of which still sound made up,” Wood Jr., Ruffin, and Black said in a joint statement. Jimmy Mulville, Jim Biederman, and Richard Wilson serve as executive producers on the series.

Meanwhile, Season 4 delivered record-breaking viewership for the show across CNN’s platforms. Specifically, the show’s P2 audience average reached 1.06 million viewers, up 246% from the prior four-week average, per Nielsen data. In the 25-54 demographic, the average hit 172,000 viewers, up 153% on the previous season and 47% above its lead-in. Additionally, the series regularly reached the HBO Max top ten the day after each TV premiere.

“Season four demonstrated just how strongly this series is resonating with audiences, becoming a standout performer across CNN’s platforms and a meaningful part of the weekly conversation online,” said Amy Entelis, Executive Vice President of Talent, CNN Originals, and Creative Development for CNN Worldwide.

Originally, the show first debuted in 2024 and draws from a long-running BBC format now in its 71st season. Notable Season 4 guests included U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, Hasan Minhaj, Kara Swisher, and Ari Shapiro.
