The growing bimbofication sub-fetish that’s getting Gen Z pumped up

The world of kink is growing for Gen Z. And we don’t just mean in terms of popularity.

The desire for larger than life sexual experiences is rife online, from giantess, a fascination with being dominated by a giant which has seen a 36% surge in popularity, to vore, the erotic desire to be consumed by something larger than you.

There’s even a 10,000-strong community of men getting off on inflating their testicles to the size of grapefruits by injecting them with saline, in a practice known as ball-maxxing.

But one lesser talked-about fantasy is now gaining traction among young people: breast expansion.

The ins and outs of breast expansion

This is a fetish based on the rapid and sometimes unrealistic enlargement or engorgement of a woman’s chest, whether through pregnancy, weight gain, one-day breast augmentation where people inflate their breasts with saline, or real breast augmentation.

According to Kink Curious author and sexologist, Gigi Engle, it often plays out within the BDSM community, typically as part of dom-sub play.

‘Some people who are subs may allow their dom to expand their breasts, while some might want to expand their breasts as part of being a dommy mummy,’ she tells Metro.

‘Mainly it’s about being attracted to growing and huge breasts. Breasts growing and changing is very natural to human life, due to different stages of life, weight gain, and pregnancy, so it’s not surprising this is being sexualised.’

Gigi highlights that this could also be linked to the giantess fetish (the most popular with Gen Z users of porn site Clips4Sale), adding: It’s the idea your breasts are expanding because you’re growing into a giant and this could smother someone.’

As for why it’s so popular with Gen Z specifically, she lumps it in with the trend of bimbofication, which has taken off within the younger community. This involves the transformation of a person into an exaggeratedly hyper-feminine, sexualised persona — often by artificial means.

Breast expansion is still niche in the kink world, but the community is definitely expanding (pun very much intended), with one Reddit threat for fans boasting more than 90,000 members and counting.

How to practice breast expansion

There are actually multiple ways to practice breast expansion, the most popular being AI-generated content, which is common on the dedicated Reddit forums.

In AI clips, a woman will be seen with a bare chest or a bikini top, often drinking something which causes her breasts to inflate to an unnatural size like two balloons.

Gigi explains this imagery is also popular in anime and hentai, a form of animated pornography that’s been the top search term on Pornhub for several years, claiming the number one spot in 2024 and 2025.

As for why people might enjoy watching animated breast expansion porn sex and relationship therapist, and author of the non-monogamy book Opened, Courtney Boyer, says it can feel ‘psychologically safer’ because it creates emotional distance.

‘It can also be about control and customisation,’ Courtney tells Metro. ‘AI and animation can create idealised experiences that bypass the unpredictability of real intimacy. This can feel comforting in a world where many people feel emotionally overwhelmed.’

And yes, this may feel totally unrealistic in terms of body standards for women, but the intent is for it to be fantasy — not reality.

‘Fantasy itself isn’t inherently harmful but when our primary exposure to sexuality becomes increasingly disconnected from real human interaction, it can start shaping unrealistic expectations around bodies and intimacy,’ Courtney adds.

How to practice breast expansion in reality

Of course, some people like to practice their fetish IRL, rather than just through a screen.

Women post pictures of themselves a few years apart, showing how much their breasts have grown, with many finding this natural change more of a turn-on.

However, there are more manufactured ways to achieve larger breasts in this kink community.

‘There’s a one-day breast augmentation where people inflate their breasts with saline, or they can have real breast augmentation,’ Gigi says. ‘Push up bras, water bras, and saline are temporary solutions, while a breast augmentation isn’t.’

Water bras have water pads at the bottom which push up your breasts and make them look larger, just like the foam inserts in regular push up bras, and are a totally harmless way to ‘expand’ your breasts.

Saline, on the other hand, along with breast augmentation, can be much more dangerous.

‘Risks come with saline injections or breast augmentations,’ Gigi warns. ‘You need a professional to do those, otherwise they can cause scar tissue and sagging, and you could end up in the hospital.’

In fact, infection, permanent skin sagging, severe bruising, haematomas, and potential tissue damage, are just some of the side-effects of injecting your breasts with saline.

So if you’re new to the fetish, try a push up bra and a filter on your camera instead.
