The Odyssey Star Mia Goth’s Disturbing Horror Prequel Is Finally Returning To Hulu

Fans are already getting to see Mia Goth on the big screen as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is playing in theaters. However, for those who want to watch her from the comfort of their homes, Hulu is again releasing her 2022 prequel slasher film.

A24’s Pearl starring Mia Goth joins Hulu’s August 2026 streaming lineup

Pearl, described as a collision between The Wizard of Oz and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, is releasing on Hulu on August 1. The film is not currently available on any other subscription streaming platform in the U.S. (via ScreenRant).

Directed by Ti West, Pearl traces the origin of its title character, a young woman trapped on a remote Texas farmstead in 1918. Her desperate dreams of Hollywood stardom curdle into violent obsession. West co-wrote the script with Goth, who gave a performance widely regarded as the film’s centrepiece.

The picture earned a 93% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim had reviewed, “The selling point here is Mia Goth. She did an excellent job with her dual role as Max and Pearl in X, so much so that I did not know the same person played them. This time, Goth gets free reign as an unhinged killer while nailing her emotional scenes.” Further, he added, “She delivers a long monologue in one take and her co-writing credit on this film shows her creative influence and passion for bringing this project to life. She is the selling point for this movie, especially in Pearl‘s haunting final shot.”

The supporting cast includes David Corenswet, now known for Superman, alongside Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, Emma Jenkins-Purro, Amelia Reid-Meredith, and Alistair Sewell. Production took place in New Zealand immediately after X wrapped, repurposing existing sets and employing crew from the Avatar sequels.

Pearl served as the middle chapter of West’s trilogy. The original X opened in 2022, and MaXXXine followed in July 2024, continuing the story Goth began. For viewers catching The Odyssey in theatres, August 1 offers a chance to revisit the performance that solidified her reputation for channelling chaos.
