Early reactions for The Punisher: One Last Kill highlighted Jon Bernthal’s return as Frank Castle in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ special.
Users on X praised the project’s violent action, emotional themes, and Bernthal’s performance. Brandon Davis wrote, “The Punisher: One Last Kill is endless, high-octane action. Brutally metal. Jon Bernthal drops his best Frank Castle performance.” He also stated the special “zips through great mental health themes, a new villain, and an unclear time in MCU/Punisher’s life.”

The special stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle alongside Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle. Reinaldo Marcus Green directed the project and co-wrote it with Bernthal. Marvel Studios developed the television special as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six slate. The story follows Castle attempting to abandon revenge before entering a conflict involving a rising criminal empire.
Production began in July 2025 in New York City and concluded in August 2025. The project draws inspiration from The Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank comic series by Garth Ennis, Steve Dillon, and Jimmy Palmiotti. Bernthal previously stated the special would present “a visceral, psychologically complex, unforgiving, no-holds-barred version of Frank.”
Marvel Studios scheduled The Punisher: One Last Kill for release on Disney+ on May 12, 2026.
