California politics gets even carzier. Unlike previous elections for governor, California’s primary is now not based on party preference. Instead, out of whatever field of candidates is on the ballot, the top two vote-getters will face off in November. This was intended to eliminate Republicans from ever being governor -- since the top two would almost always be Democrats. Funny how the poet Robert Burns’ reference to “Best laid plans” comes to mind. Today’s Sample Ballot, courtesy of my county’s Registrar of Voters, has 63 gubernatorial candidates -- with about a dozen being Republicans. Many of the others are keeping...
