An R rating should allow superhero movies to get harsher, stranger, bloodier, and more psychologically intense. Deadpool is a good example of this which also brings a lot of humor along with all those things. The 2000s, however, kept proving that rating alone means nothing. You can add gore, profanity, leather, guns, monsters, revenge, vampires, occult powers, and comic-book tragedy, then still end up with a movie that has no force.
