Chloe Fineman reveals what Lorne Michaels said on the call about her leaving SNL

Speaking with Variety at the premiere of her upcoming movie The Dink, Chloe Fineman opened up about the time she informed Lorne Michaels of her exit from Saturday Night Live. The comedian revealed that the SNL creator was at a FIFA World Cup match when she called him.

“He was, in classic form, he was watching England vs. Argentina,” Fineman said when she rang him to discuss her departure from SNL after seven seasons. The comedian revealed that Michaels “was doing, like, the coolest thing in the world with the coolest people, and we had a lovely talk” about her time as a cast member on the show.

“He was like, ‘I’ll call you back, I’m at the game,” Fineman said. “I was like, the soccer game? I made a joke, I was like, ‘I assume you’re rooting for England because you’re energetically very British?’” the SNL star added.

The 38-year-old went on to emphasize that she “had a really lovely chat” with Michaels about her decision to take her leave from the show.

Fineman announced her exit from SNL in an Instagram post on Thursday. “After 7 wonderful seasons at SNL I have decided it’s time for my next chapter,” she penned in the caption. “It’s cliche to say this but working at SNL has been the greatest privilege of my life. I still can’t really believe I got to be a part of it. I fell in love with the place the second I walked through the door.”

She also addressed Michaels in the post, saying, “Lorne (if you’re reading this on your burner account) I want you to know that I am forever in your debt.”
