Michael Fassbender‘s spy series is earning far stronger reviews for its second season. Critics have praised it, helping the show reach a major Rotten Tomatoes milestone. As per the early reviews, the latest installment sharpens many of the elements that already worked while delivering a more compelling overall story.
What the critics are saying about The Agency Season 2
Season 2 of The Agency have won over reviewers by building on the foundation of the first outing. Several critics talked about the show’s balance between classic spy storytelling and modern television pacing. Ryan Britt of Inverse wrote that the series remains true to the spirit of legendary espionage writer John le Carré while still feeling highly bingeable for today’s audience.
Others pointed to the creative team’s refinements behind the scenes. Giovanni Lago of Next Best Picture noted that writers Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth did not reinvent the series.
Instead, they focused on strengthening the elements that worked in Season 1, a decision he felt paid off. Kaiya Shunyata of RogerEbert.com also praised the closing stretch of episodes, describing the final trio as a powerful payoff where the show’s various story threads come together.
Fassbender’s performance has emerged as another major talking point. According to ScreenRant’s Felipe Rangel, the actor delivers an “acting masterclass” as CIA operative Martian.
The Agency Season 2 gets a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes
The biggest talking point may be the show’s Rotten Tomatoes performance. Season 2 currently holds a perfect 100% Tomatometer score, a dramatic jump from Season 1’s 66% critics score. The first season also earned a 78% audience rating, showing viewers were generally more positive than critics.
The series follows a covert agent who is ordered to leave his undercover identity behind and return to London Station, only to find himself drawn back toward a former love. The ensemble cast also includes Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Richard Gere, Dominic West and Katherine Waterston.
