ComingSoon can reveal that newly launched production company Ornette Films is teaming with Holocene Entertainment to option Going Under, a brand new female-led horror film about a medical student who finds herself trapped in an underground organ trafficking operation.

What is Going Under about?

Going Under follows the story of “a gifted medical student who awakens to find herself trapped inside an underground organ trafficking operation. Forced to navigate a terrifying labyrinth where surgery has become a tool of exploitation, she must outwit her captors before becoming their next victim.”

Holocene’s Spencer Myers is also attached to direct and produce the project, with Gregory JM Kasunich and Mark Manjardi serving as writers. Kasunich has previously worked on the Oscar-qualifying short film Meeting Your Maker, while Manjardi wrote Reel One Entertainment’s 2003 film A Charming Valentine.

Currently, no casting information on the film is available, nor any release information.

The news comes after competitive interest in the project. In the end, Ornette Films (founded by Raye Levine Spielberg and Jeff Solomon) and Holocene picked up the movie. The movie is one of the first major development acquisitions for Ornette Films, which is looking to continue to build outs its slate of projects.

“Going Under is what we believe audiences are hungry for: a shocking, darkly funny thriller taking place in a reality that’s only one degree off from our own,” said Solomon in a statement. “The script delivers relentless tension while exploring a subject that feels deeply relevant and unsettling. Spencer is a preternaturally gifted director with an eye for genre that somehow feels both classic and unpredictable, and when Raye and I heard his take on Gregory and Mark’s material, it felt like alchemy.  We’re so thrilled to be building this project together.”

“At its core, Going Under is about survival, agency, and the impossible choices people make when the systems designed to protect them become the very thing they have to escape,” said Kasunich on the upcoming movie. “Mark and I wanted to build an entertaining thriller that taps into deeper anxieties around power, control, and bodily autonomy. I’m thrilled to continue developing the project alongside Ornette and Holocene as both a writer and producer.”
